Christmas to come

Christmas Aftermath
By Beth Matlock

Up first thing this morning,
The kids woke with the sun.
Their laughs, squeals, and cheers,
Heard by everyone.
They tore through the presents,
Paper, bags, and bows galore.
So very many gifts,
How could they ask for more?
Mom and dad played their part,
Up late building toys,
A dollhouse, a robot,
Bikes for good girls and boys.
Now sleeping kids clutch their toys,
The excitement's all done,
Mom and dad smile and sigh,
Cocktail time to tie on one.

Merry Christmas everyone!
