Home for the Holidays

Every year for as long as I have lived in McKinney there has always been a Christmas event early in December in downtown McKinney.

It used to be that the event was called A Dickens of a Christmas and there were carolers that wandered around in Victorian garb, horse drawn carriage rides, etc..  While there were booths and activities for children, on the whole, the event was much more interesting for adults.

In recent years this event has changed and is now called Home for the Holidays and is very focused on the kiddos.

This year there was a ferris wheel, a merry go round, a bouncy house slide, Santa's Village, and so much more!

The holiday events always promoted the idea of shopping locally and this year that included a station where you could get any gifts bought in the shops downtown gift wrapped for free!

The stores downtown all got dressed up for the event, including live models in the form of darling girls from local dance schools.  The three that I saw were all dancing to various songs from the Nutcracker in the window of Upstage Dancewear.

There were also various dance groups, including this adorable trio who were never all doing the same thing at the same time (LOVED IT!!!), performing on the stage set up on one side of the former courthouse, now McKinney Performing Arts Center.
"McKinney Home for the Holidays Train 1" - McKinney, Texas
You cannot forget the train that made a regular run around one side of the square with a conductor that looked more than a little like Santa minus the red suit and Frosty the Snowman riding in the caboose with space for two lucky kids.
"McKinney Home for the Holidays Skating 1" - McKinney, Texas
And there was a skating rink too!  It wasn't real ice, but it did give the kids a chance to strap on some skates and show off how truly terrible the majority of them were at skating...I'm serious, they were all flat on the "ice" at least once and/or hanging on the side railing for dear life.  They all looked like they were having a fantastic time though, so more power to them.

Oh and the food!  The completely nutrient deficient, heart attack pending, but oh so good, fried food!  It was a good Saturday!
