McKinney's Award Winning Odysseus Chamber Orchestra

Our favorite Odysseus Chamber Orchestra has been busy since we saw them in November.  For the second year in a row the Orchestra has been awarded the American Prize!

The American Prize focuses on "celebrating American excellence in the arts."  Founded in 2009, the American Prize consists of several competitions that reward the best in the performing arts.
This year the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra won 3rd place in the Orchestral Performance, professional orchestra category.  This prize is particularly special considering that the first place orchestra was founded in 1964 and the second place orchestra is currently in its 69th season.  In contrast the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra is quite young.  It was established in 2012 "to strengthen, deepen and broaden (its) relationship with the communities it serves," (Jason Lim, director and conductor of the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra).
Not only did the Orchestra win a prize, but Jason Lim was also awarded 2nd place in the Conducting category.  This is just the latest in a series of accolatdes for one of the Denton-Record Chronicle's Most Fascinating People of 2012.
Jason Lim is incredibly proud of the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra and is thrilled to have been a part of a program that was established to "encouraging musicians of the orchestra to become ambassadors of orchestral classical music and to encourage them to engage in the communities the orchestra serves," (Jason Lim, director and conductor of the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra).
Jason's vision for the Orchestra includes "creating new programs and initiatives to bring the experience of classical music to audiences," (Jason Lim, director and conductor of the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra).
The Odysseus Chamber Orchestra includes a mentor program which brings talented, high school musicians into the professional orchestra world.
The Orchestra also provides free concerts for the public, including this year's February 27th performance at the McKinney Performing Arts Center.
McKinney and Frisco are lucky to have such a social conscious and award winning organization providing entertainment and culture.
"An orchestra is a extension and reflection of a prosperous and healthy city. The Odysseus North Texas Chamber Orchestra is the representation of a cities leaders, arts community," (Jason Lim, director and conductor of the Odysseus Chamber Orchestra).
